What does carat mean?
Carat in gold is the measure of the amount of pure gold in the metal. For example, 18ct gold contains 75% pure gold and 25% mix of silver and copper.
Carat is also the unit of weight or size for a diamond. Diamonds can range in size from a fraction of a carat to several carats. When considering diamonds of equal quality, the larger stone will have more value.

What does it mean when a pearl is ‘freshwater’ and ‘cultured’?
Freshwater pearls are formed in various species of freshwater mollusk by their natural defence mechanism.
Cultured pearls are humanity’s work at duplicating what nature first started. A ‘seed’ (typically a round bead made of mother of pearl) is inserted into the freshwater mollusk. After three years, a pearl is then harvested.
